I love reading memoirs. Recently I got my hands on Aliette’s book ‘Who Could Have Imagined’. In this book, through her own story Aliette has explained how the change in our perspective could change our destiny.

At a very young age, Aliette had gone through many things- parents’ separation, child abuse, getting pregnant before marriage, marrying in her teen years. All these events of her life shaped her. Many times in life, Aliette felt that God is with her. She didn’t need to crave for love from anyone as God was there to give her all.

Read her story to find out how with our choices, we can determine our own future. I appreciate Aliette’s courage in sharing her story with everyone. Her life journey is an inspiration. Those who are having a difficult time should read this book. They would be inspired to turn their life around with their choices, right education, faith in God and self-belief. A well written book that I strongly recommend to my fellow readers.

Recently I got my hands on J G Schwartz’s ‘The Curious Spell of Madam Genova’. It is an entertaining read. The story begins with a fortune teller, Madam Genova. She uses the back bedroom of her apartment to see clients.

Howard T. James is one of the finest watchmakers in New York. He created two pocket watches. One watch is for his son who is a Boy Scout. Howard’s wife believes in a fortune teller. She insisted on taking those pocket watches to get blessed but things went wrong. Madam Genova who cast a spell on a watch knew that the spell went wrong. She told Howard’s wife that if the true owners of these watches abandon or lose it, bad luck would follow.

Genova kept one of the watches with her and she assured Doroles to return it after receiving the pending $100 payment. Read the story to know where the watches will end up. This is a refreshing story and it kept me engaged throughout the book. The narration is smooth and I was able to follow the story easily. The characters are written well and this story would stay in my head for a long time.

Virtually Lost

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
Virtually Lost penned by the author Shreyan Laha is a good book for light reading. The story begins with the main character Manisha at a bus stop of Pathabhrashta city. She doesn’t remember much about her. She doesn’t remember where she has come from. When she met a man named Dhaval, she found out that this city is like social media.

Everyone has a profile with the government. People wear wristbands and they aren’t supposed to take it out. The government even tracks the thoughts and dreams of people. There is not much privacy for the people of this city. One policeman handed over a wristband to Manisha.

Read this book to know what will happen with her in this city. I appreciate the vivid imagination of the author. The backdrop setting is nice and the story is easy to follow. I binge read this book and enjoyed every bit of it.

After finishing “The 1st Assassin”, I was eager to get my hands on the second book “The 2nd Fugitive” in the series. In this book, the main character is Major Aaditya Sen. He is in the Indian Army and works for the government in the home ministry. He was posted to Dubai to babysit a gangster that is wanted by many nations.

The story involves Aaditya’s fears as he works on his different assignments. ISIS gunmen, Pakistani commandos, Saudi assassins and Russian mobsters all are looking for this gangster. Read this book to know about the rollercoaster ride of Aaditya on the assigned mission.

The storyline is gripping and made this an unputdownable book. The author has used simple language in the book. Those who want to give a try to reading a thriller should pick this book. The characters are written well. This story would stay in my head for a long time. Fantastic plot!

I love reading thrillers. Recently I got my hands on Mainak Dhar’s ‘The 1st Assassin: A Unit 22 Thriller’. It is a captivating story that will keep you hooked till the last page. The story is set in India. Sen is guilty of a few things from his soldier life. He has seen his friends being killed. Many times, when Sen gave orders, his subordinates lives were the cost. Now, he is leading the investigation about a potential terrorism plot. The President of the US is visiting India and Major Sen is given the responsibility to eliminate the threat. The story gets really gripping from this point.

The backdrop setting is done well by the author. The narration is smooth and strong. The descriptions are so clear that I was pulled into the story and forgot about the real world around me for some time. Overall, this is a good read. Go ahead with this without any second thoughts. It’s worth reading.

Those who love reading stories involving conspiracy, terrorism, spies, assassin, hope, threat, trauma should pick this book. Great work by Mainak in this book.

Hope Knocking is the debut novel of the author Nova Mann. There are three main characters in the story: Amantha, her husband Matthew and her mom Nancy Mae. Amantha grew up in the foothills of Appalachia in north Georgia. When she started her teaching career, she moved up to the ancient mountains on the Tennessee-North Carolina border.

Amantha and her husband Matthew married each other on the banks of the Diamond River. Now, Amantha’s mother Nancy has also moved back to Tennessee and lives next door. While living in Mavie, the three of them had to go through hardships because of the coronavirus.

I loved the songs that describe Amantha’s story. The story is told from different perspectives and the author has knitted everything well. Those who live in Appalachia would be able to connect more to the story. It’s a riveting tale and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I am looking forward to reading the sequel of this novel.

Confessions of a Side N*gga is the first book that I have read written by the author Travon Edwards. It is a captivating story that would hook readers’ attention from the first page itself. Tyrone is from a family who believes in church. When he was jailed for 6 years, his family disowned him. Tyrone only had his sister by his side. When he was working as a personal trainer at a gym, he started putting effort in his clients because he wanted the clients to come to the gym everyday.

His first client Pauline has been cheated by her husband. She felt happy to vent out everything in front of Tyrone. Will Pauline just stay a client to Tyrone or will they cross their limits with each other?

Tyrone’s involvement with multiple women in the story brought many sub stories to the readers that one would enjoy. The pace of the story is fast and readers won’t feel bored anytime while reading it. If you are looking for an escape from reality for some time, then grab a copy of this book.

Mark Andrew Swan has created a gripping tale of fantasy in his book ‘DEATH and Human Resources’. Azrael is an innocent and sensitive angel. He started being a part of Father’s Plan by being an Angel of Name. Others see him as dutiful and were quite impressed with his work. Azrael was promoted and was assigned to take notes in his book as a note taker.

As Azrael kept on working dutifully, one day it was revealed to him that he had to collect human souls. It is not easy as Azrael is sensitive. What will happen when he finds him in the middle of a sinister conspiracy?

The story kept me on the edge of my seat. Azrael is my favorite character from the story. This is a refreshing read and a different work from other novels.

Mark has done great work in his debut book. I enjoyed reading his novel. The cover of the book is nice and the title is suitable for the story. I am interested in reading more of Mark’s work in the near future.

A Kind of Hush written by the author JoDee Neathery is a captivating story. It hooked my attention from the first page itself. It is a family drama that features the Mackie family. The Mackie family recently lost their kid Griff. They are still grieving for his loss. Summer, Griff’s mother left him for fifteen minutes in care of her daughter Willa. These fifteen minutes changed their life for the worse. Summer is now playing the blame game and she blames Willa for the death of Griff. Gabe Mackie misses his brother.

After three years, the family took a trip near Zoar Valley Gorge. An unfortunate incident happened there. Matt, Summer and Willa fell off a cliff. Summer couldn’t survive the fall. Sheriff Conner Boyle is investigating the case and is determined to find the truth.

This is a gripping story. The characters are written well and would stay in my head for a long time. The storyline is interesting. The backdrop setting is nice. JoDee’s writing style is fantastic. Those who love reading stories involving suspense, family-drama should get their hands on this one.

That Magic Mischief written by the author Susanna Allen is an interesting read. Annabelle Walsh is the main character of the story. She is a witch. But when her boyfriend Wilson broke her heart, she couldn’t manage to fix her broken heart with a spell.

Lorna and Maria Grazia are Annabelle’s friends who were there to help her in healing. Read this story to know how Annabelle’s life will change when a shapeshifter Callie enters in her life. Annabelle’s encounter with Jamie Flynn made her realize what real magic can do.

The characters are interesting. Lorna, Maria Grazia, Jamie Flynn and of course Annabelle kept me hooked to this book till the end. The plot is interesting. I loved and enjoyed the electrical sparks of romance between Jamie Flynn and Annabelle. Also, the arrival of Callie in Anabelle’s life made the story funny and gripping. Those who love magic, romance, Irish mythology, etc should go ahead with this one. Well written book by the author.
